Faulty Apprentice Merchant Design: Momoko

Long ago in a far away land there was once a woman of unfathomable beauty. The only thing that compared to her beauty was the serene voice she possessed. She lived her life happily in her village until the day came when the lands warlord took notice of her beauty. The young woman had little say against the Lord even though her heart was betrothed to another. A promise was made to the boy that held her heart that one day she would run away with him until the end of time. Unfortunately their love was no secret and when war came to their lands the warlord was quick to enlist the boy as one of his soldiers. Furious and distraught the girl begged her lord husband to free him from the bindings of war, but he would not comply. Eventually she came to the conclusion that all she could do was threaten her husband with taking her own life. The warlord complied and told her of where he had sent her beloved. She was told that her beloved had fallen with the rest of his regiment in a bloody skirmish. Hearing this the girl denied even the thought of it and escaped to the scene of the bloody battlefield at night. After running barefoot the entire way she bore witness to a field of swords, armor, and blood. Sinking into despair she fell to her knees and cried out the name of her beloved... But with no answer. The once beautiful and serene voice that beckoned men to her side was now tainted with sorrow. As if heeded by the sound of her despair the souls of those fallen warriors rose from the ground and illuminated the countryside with their blue glow. Momoko's despair had changed her beautiful voice from a gift into a curse, binding her to the souls of the dead and turning her into one of the Undead. Through the ages Momoko has traveled the lands, visiting battlefield after battlefield in search of the soul of her beloved. A search she will continue until the end of time.

Momoko does not officially work for the Merchants Guild but instead is more of a consultant. The guild relies on her abilities in exchange for information when she needs it. The guild sent Momoko to Stars Reach to supply them with weapons, armor, and valuables from other fallen warriors of histories past. She draws these ancient weapons and armors from the large evil sword that seems to follow her everywhere she goes. A certain dark elf also approached Momoko with an offering of all the souls from the coming battle in return for her services to the Goblin King. Momoko was quick to decline however as she seems less interested in souls and more so with the Apprentice. Why does he look so familiar and make her heart ache so?  


I designed Momoko specifically for dinmoney 's contest for his game Faulty Apprentice  that recently got the green light over on Steam! While I don't think Momoko would fit perfectly into the Merchant role I think she had good potential for a new guard. Either way I had a lot of fun designing her and coming up with her backstory!
